Abstract

The last year of the war, like the previous year, was marked by military actions and proposals for ending the war, both by the warring parties and by political groups and organizations. The changing situation on the battlefields influenced the proposals of states and the demands of non-governmental bodies. In the end, the balance of power decided. The weakening of the Entente by the exit from the war between Russia and Romania was offset by the entry into the war of the USA. On the other side, the Central Powers were weakened by the exit of Bulgaria and Turkey from the war, leaving Germany and Austria-Hungary, from which Hungary soon withdrew, so Austria and Germany were forced to request an armistice. This opened the door to the liberation of the territories that were under the rule of Austria-Hungary, including Bosnia and Herzegovina.
